Coaching FAQs
How does Child Feeding Coaching differ from Nutrition Counseling?
While our nutrition counseling services provide medical nutrition therapy to your child, child feeding coaching is designed to help you shift your mindset about food and feeding as well as implement helpful strategies for your entire family.
Nutrition counseling addresses the nutrition component of a medical issue for an individual (low food intake, slowed or accelerated growth, anemia, etc.) whereas child feeding coaching addresses the adult’s attitudes towards feeding. And while the child must be present during a nutrition counseling session, with child feeding coaching we suggest that the child not be present so that we can discuss sensitive issues.
Due to state licensure laws, we are only able to provide nutrition counseling to clients residing in Oklahoma where we are licensed as well as a select few additional states. To find out if we are able to work together for nutrition counseling, fill out the inquiry form here.
How many coaching sessions will I need?
This is up to you and the amount of support you feel you need! It will depend on how much diet culture has influenced you, whether you have your own disordered eating behaviors and the specific challenges you face with feeding your children. Our introductory coaching package begins with three sessions and you can add on additional sessions for as long as you need support. We recommend working together at least once monthly but see better progress when we are able to meet every two weeks.
Can I purchase just one session?
At the end of each session, you and Diana will set goals and next steps together. Following up with additional coaching sessions is an important part of the process to determine what’s working and what areas of feeding your kids might need more attention. We have found that a minimum of three coaching sessions is important to help clients reach their goals, and many clients opt for ongoing support beyond the first three sessions.
However, if you are unsure if child feeding coaching is the right fit for your situation, Diana offers free 10-minute phone sessions to discuss her approach and learn more about your family’s needs. Complete the form below to request a call!
Will my insurance cover or reimburse me for coaching?
No, insurance plans only cover medical nutrition therapy with a registered dietitian, not coaching. However, you may be able to use your HSA or FSA funds to pay for your coaching plan.
